Maria’s background includes that of dancer, guitarist, writer, songwriter, and singer. In the 70’s she was lead singer in Ballet Rambert’s “Cruel Garden”, and had a major role in BBC Two’s Play for Today “Billy”.

During the ‘80’s she wrote 3 plays with Broadside Theatre touring the UK and produced five albums of original songs, performing them worldwide.

In the ‘90’s she wrote and toured the dance drama ‘‘About Time’’, and the musical play ‘‘Mrs Columbus Speaks Out’’.

She was Musical Director for Banner Theatre and Telling Tales Theatre, and composed the music for Conundrum Dance Company’s ‘‘Women Unbound’’.

Her straight play “Cargo” was produced at the Finborough Theatre in London, the play “A Fish’s Tale’’ was broadcast on radio and her poetry appeared on the 73 bus in London!

Maria wrote a chapter in ‘‘Taking Reality by Surprise’’ published by the Women’s Press Ltd and her article published in “Women Live” was included in the the university syllabus of Women’s Studies.

Since 2000 she has been writing stories and songs for use in primary schools.

She is currently writing a song-cycle with the working title “Ground Level” about being older.

Writing poetry is an on-going love.
