I’ve been writing poetry for three years or so now. I work designing jewellery, in Hatton Garden, London. I began a philosophy and English degree at Glasgow University but decided to swerve the debt and the booze and go straight into working life. I do a lot of stream of consciousness writing and am mostly interested in poetry as revelation or even as incantation (Prospero’s speech in the Tempest where he renounces his magic is the best example – to my mind it is itself a real life magic spell). Given a silence of the conscious mind or at least a loosening of it as best one can, something sub-conscious and old and dark and magical stands a chance of being heard. I consider a poem a success if I have no idea where it came from and where it is going and it still makes sense.
